#23

the tears are falling on my pillow case

where the silence of our summer love

was written on your face

will I get to hold you once again

the days are cold

and numbing

bitter their refrain

the echo of our love is calling

are you out there

singing out a Christmas song

or calling out for peace

even while the bombs are falling?

do they know it’s Christmas

even here in Kiev

are you singing Silent Night

hoping to believe

you can hear our Silver Bells

gently ringing

As we sing and cry O Holy Night

The choir’s singing, hear it, singing,

softly

won’t you come home

and stay the night?

Christmas comes along just once a year

though tears they last forever

and forever

    and will be here

when all I have to give are empty Christmas songs

as empty as the promises

we make

for all along

when love is gone

it’s gone and goes

forever

But here it will never go away

As long as we have memories of

another

Christmas Day.

when the guns ring out

and echo through the night

holding on to Christmas somehow makes it right

when I see the love that’s written on your face

and all I have are silent tears

lost in my pillow case

the echo of my endless love is calling

I sing every song I ever knew

are you still out there

singing every Christmas tune

or calling out for peace

even while the bombs are falling?
