AT THE EDGE OF A LONG, LONE LAND

In February of 2023, I had 111 subscribers. That’s when I first put this story up. It’s was divided into 6 parts. It, like so many of my stories, is a love story, but a layered love story. And what love isn’t layered? There’s the love the boy has for the woman up on the hill — or is that an infatuation? Lust, maybe? And there’s the love the boy’s mother has for her husband. That’s a hard love because of what happened to him during the war. That, is what love truly is…the “for better or worse, ‘til death us do part,” part of the marriage vows.
It’s heart-breaking, in hind-sight, well, that’s what I think, (not the boy and the woman using him for her own needs), but the mother’s devotion to her husband as much as her family. She knows her son will have his heart broken, but by this time in her life, she understands the meaning of heartbreak as much as she understands he has to learn it for himself.
