Synopsis…sort of:
The PAYWALL’S up. Just to let you know where we are with the story, a brief recap. Artemus Spencer has travelled out to the Devon countryside where he hopes to stay with old ex-army buddy Reggie. He has his motives for being out there, and they come out later. He arrives on the train the night before. There has been a huge torrential rain, causing teams to overflow and leading to major flooding. Reggie and Artie work at saving what they can, and drive out with the produce to Mandalay Manor, where Claire, Reggie’s new love, is the chief cook. But Carhill, the Butler, refuses to accept the produce because it’s not a scheduled delivery. Claire, upset by the man’s actions, quits on the spot.
As they drive home, she plants the idea in Artie’s head that he should use the upcoming Costume Ball to break into the surrounding houses and rob them. He also hears the story of Lord Cromwell’s Skull, and vows to claim it.
Time passes, and Artie breaks into a Manor where he meets Jennifer Ashcroft, the wife of Roger, who is still in London, but is on his way home unbeknownst to her. Artie has broken into the Manor specifically to steal a violin. Jennifer asks to be his partner and says she is willing to do anything to be his partner. When he tells her to prove if and undoes the buttons of his fly, she complies.
Jenny leads Artie through the house to her sister-in-law’s room, and he takes everything he can find. At this point, Roger arrives home, and the two run through endless halls to Jenny’s room. Artie waits out on the balcony as Jenny climbs into bad and Roger shows up, drunk…and horny.
Roger and Jenny are active participants in role-playing sex games where he is the dominant one and she is his “victim.” Artie has no idea about the games they play, and waits outside on Jenny’s balcony.
Today’s chapter is short, but that happens sometimes.
