This is a short refresher on my serial novel, (I hope): THE SHIELD OF LOCKSLEY. I’m going to put this up for all the new readers and followers I’ve picked up since first publishing this on March 29th 2023, when I had 127 total readers and followers. Now, I have 1075.
It’s a story that takes place near the end of the days of King Arthur and Camelot. King Arthur doesn’t play a very big rôle in the story so far. There are good guys, and bad guys. Locksley, is the good guy. His Uncle is Sir Grummer Grummurson, a Scotch Knight according to Mallory, who is only mentioned once is his epic LE MORTE D’ARTHUR, which is the only book of reference I’m using.
Locksley is a child when the War Of The Twelve Kings starts, and a newly made knight by the time it ends. I’m loose with the time line. All the great knights are older: Launcelot, Gawain, Lamorak — King Pellinore suffers a stroke. I’ve purposely made some knights older.
The first part of this story is fourteen chapters. The second part is close to the same. But I have some chapters divided into sub-chapters. I want to say right from the outset, that THIS IS NOT the story of Arthur you grew up with. It is violent. There is raping and pillaging, murder and betrayal. They swear.
If this were a movie, it would be RESTRICTED!
This is NOT a story for kids, or young adults.
Starting Today this part of the story is going to be FREE. I want my READERS to consider looking at it and perhaps reading it. Maybe you’ll want to read the second part? This is a serial NOVEL after all. I’m going to repost it on Wednesday — one whole chapter at a time. This has been behind the PAYWALL since I started it. PART TWO will be behind the PAYWALL. There’s not going to be a segment for you to read like there was with Part One. If you want to read it, you have to buy your way into it at $30 for the year. (That works out to 8¢ a day…and it’s Canadian. We don’t even have pennies here anymore.)
At the moment, it is 85,000 words. I would think that by the time I finish PART TWO it will be close to 125,000. And when it’s all done? Who knows? 250,000-300,000? I don’t know.
And why is it behind the PAYWALL?
That’s pretty simple. I have 20 PAID subscribers. That’s all. Nobody wants to pay $30 for the year, or $5 per month, except those few. As a result of their belief in me, I’m giving them something special.
