I wrote this back in May of 2023. It’s not that long ago, I know, but at the time I only had 171 subscribers. At the same time, I also had 5 PAID subscribers. Five days after putting this out, I picked up another PAID reader. Today, I have 915 Subscribed readers, 40 of whom are PAID. Not high numbers, I know, but I’m hoping I break 1000 by my birthday in the beginning of March. I have a total of 3220 Followers, and I’m grateful for such numbers, believe me.
People often ask me where I get my ideas. This one came along with the name Benjamin Messenger. He was the guide we had in Rome who took us on what was supposed to be a tour through the old parts of the Eternal City. He was tall, and thin, and English, studying history in Rome. And why not? As soon as he introduced himself, I knew I was going to use that name in a story. There was a tiny little Gelateria next to the Air B&B we were staying at. I placed the story in 1963 because Rome was preparing for the Olympics, and Kennedy was about to be assassinated. The fact that it was still close enough to the end of the War to helped explain peoples’ attitudes towards life, death, and the overall way of living. And having a Mafia presence during the rebuilding and preparations of the Roman Olympics made a lot of sense. There’s always going to be corruption and protection money paid out in places like that.
But what price are you willing to pay?
Be sure to leave a comment in the Comments section provided under each story. Oh yeah, and maybe if you could SHARE, or RESTACK? That would be nice. If you want, you can up-Grade for $30/year (Canadian) and read the rest of my stories. You obviously like long stories like this or you wouldn’t be here in the first place. A lot of them are disappearing behind the paywall because it’s been more than 28 months that they’ve been out. The only way you’ll get to read them is if I put them out on Throwback Thursday, or you up-Grade.
I want to say Thank you for subscribing to me, and I hope you stick around and watch as we grow this page.
