THE DEEDS OF MERCY
I wrote this story a couple of years ago and played with it for a while, trying to sort through it and bring it to a satisfying conclusion. I didn’t want to make it about religion, but more about the mechanics of it all. Religion is man-made. And I didn’t want to show that part of it. I wanted to focus on the deities and different outlooks on the afterlife and the impending end of the world. So I took three major religions — Christian, Muslim and Buddhist, threw them into a blender, and decided to have the Devil’s representative show up and try to sell the program to the man they chose as their candidate.
If you have a difficult time separating religion from fantasy in your life, this might not be for you. I’m not saying that religion is fantasy, not even close. My ideas of what we may find once we’ve shuffled off this mortal coil, has nothing to do with this story. It’s how everyone else looks at it that matters I suppose. But when I originally put this story out in August of 2022, I had 35 Subscribers. I don’t have 35 any more. I’ve grown since then. I just passed 2700 Followers the other day. I’m closing in on 1000 Subscribers. I just need 150 more to reach that milestone.
That’s why I thought I put this out again.
And that’s it. Probably my shortest story considering what I usually have laying around.
