I posted this story back in July of 2023, July 23rd to be exact. At the time I had 214 Subscribers. I don’t remember when the “Followers,” but I don’t think it was then. Back in those days, you put you post up and it showed up on the banner running across the top of the page. Others “Recommended” you, or “liked” and “Restacked” your story. It was slow progress and you’d pick up a subscriber or two every other day or sa…well, at least I did. Some did better, others not.
In those somewhat halcyon days of postings, it was quality as much as quantity. I was still trying to sort out what I was supposed to be doing. I’d settled down with my “Short Stories, After Eight,” as well as my serial fiction. It may have been “Jack Of Diamonds.” It was the “Stories, After Eight,” that mattered most, because they were FREE and the only way to get subscribers was for people to read them.
It had been a year and half since my accident at work, and I’d actually settled down and started writing again. So I put this up. The name of the boat they’re on, is the name of a training vessel that used to ply the waters of the Fraser River when I worked on the booming grounds up here. And the main character is the name of my work friend’s wife, and also his last name. I do that. I put the names of people I worked with in my stories — not their personalities, or characteristics, just their names. I do it, because I don’t want to forget them and what better way to remember someone?
And there you have it, and here it is:
