I don’t want to get into the habit of writing too much and cluttering up your email, but I have to tell you what I did.
I’ve published a book.
Yes, at first I was trying to get it out on Apple Books, but it just wasn’t working for me. I uploaded it and when I went to give my information, it wouldn’t accept me. It kept coming up with things that said: That bank doesn’t exist. What do you mean it doesn’t exist? It’s an international bank you stupid, twats! And then, it told me I had to put in the “router code. It’s the nine number sequence on the bottom of your personal cheque.
Yeah, we don’t have that here.
So I phoned the bank, asked her if she knew what it was, and she gave me some numbers and told me to try it out. And it didn’t work. I tried again, thinking maybe I made a boo-boo. Nope. So I thought, I’ll just put up zeroes. Well, poke me in the pecker with a stick! It worked.
So I tried putting my story up, but the formatting wasn’t working. So I had to take it down. I’d fix whatever was wrong, upload it again, and again, screwed over. That’s when I saw in the Notes section of this site, that I was having problems. Someone suggested Draft2Digital. So I went there and took a look.
I had the story up as an eBook. I didn’t care at the moment what it was. I thought, I’ll put it up as an eBook, and when I figure things out, I’ll try a book. They were offering paperback. I uploaded my story, and it did the rest. All I had to do was choose a book cover. And pay for it. But I don’t mind, because it’s not Ai. It’s a real artist doing it. I didn’t get what I was looking for, and had to sort of “settle.”
I’m not saying I don’t like the cover. I do.
Now before you go all Ape-shit on me, I want you to know that they picked the prices. They told me I should inform the reader as to how many pages are in it. Well, Draft2Digital did it in 164 pages; Apple did it in 220 pages. But they chose the price as well.
$11.99
No one’s gonna buy that! It gives me $1.97 in royalties. But, it also promises to put it in different bookstores around the world.
You can Pre-order it in Kobo, or on Smashwords, or any one of a dozen different places…worldwide.
And here’s the best part…because I didn’t really know what I was doing, I now have two versions coming out on the same day. Paperback, and eBook. The eBook is a whopping $3.99. I get $2.37 in Royalties with that one. Now I can’t be sure, but I believe someone may have pre-ordered an eBook.
If that was you, I thank you.
I don’t want this to get too long, but I was playing with some numbers earlier, feeding them into ChatGPT. I have 934 Subscribers, and a total of 3,354 total Followers. I don’t expect all of you to buy an eBook, let alone a paperback. But I have to pay for the books I want to use for advertising. We have a few small bookstores here, and if I can convince them to pick up my book, I might be able to sell some. We also have a couple of big “Flea Markets.” I’d like to rent a table and sell there as well. I wouldn’t be able to make a profit, but I’d get the word out.
In order for me to make money, I have to put myself out there. I have to advertise and put it out there on Reddit, and Pinterest, Facebook, and, what’s that new one? Blue-whatever.
The one thing I have to understand is that this is one of those “long-game” scenarios. If my goal is to sell a thousand books, I have to remember that it might take me years. It could be less, but I have to be realistic.
I could also hit the jackpot and get picked up by Reese’s Bookclub, or something like that. If anyone knows her, give her a shout out for me, will ya?
Oh yeah, so…the link.

Those are just the ones that are up.
I’ve got this scheduled to go up MARCH 3rd.
The publisher of my short story collection used D2D to distribute both eBooks and paperbacks. D2D does a good job. And yes, we make more royalties on digital than paperback, and that's OK. If your experience is similar to mine, you'll rack in the same numbers for both formats ... and yes, I'm going to get your courtesan in eBook! I hope a bunch of your subscribers does the same!
Congrats, Ben! I'm also a fan of physical books. I'll keep an eye out for the paperback!
