This is exquisite, Ben. I don't know how you have been able to capture so well the doubt, the determination and the sorrow that was such a part of this era. Such a rich story. Kudos, to you brother.
I read Next Sunday's today. I did it in two takes because I screwed up in the middle of the first one. Anyway, I told my wife that I moved the computer screen forward, made the font larger, and was able to sit back so that I could read it better. I asked her if I should use the camera, set it up on a tripod, and do it sitting in a chair? She said: Why, so people can look at the top of your head as you're reading? I guess I have to wait until Sunday, because I can't be watching it now. I'll just want to do it all over again.
I love that you're sharing your process. I'm toying with the idea of reading some of my poetry here. I have zero experience with this, so it'll be a challenge.
I'll tell you a secret. Sitting in front of my computer and just reading it out loud, with no one in the house, I've never felt so...at ease. Poetry is going to be different than what I do. If I fuck up, it doesn't really do too much to the rhythm of the story. People can be pretty forgiving. Poetry has a rhythm, and a cadence, and when you stumble on the words you generally have to start over again. It doesn't matter how many times I read it, I'm going to stumble somewhere. But if you can read it, and show the emotion, I say go for it. If you have a digital camera and can record it as a video, you can upload it and edit it. I just don't have the patience for that. Or maybe I just can't be bothered? But if I was reading poetry, I'd probably make more of an effort. But rise to the challenge...you may surprise yourself.
I haven't been able to listen two the last couple, some audio issue my end or poor connection. Glad you've got it written so I could catch up! I am enjoying the Dawn Patrol! A lot!
Hey I am not doing my own little podcast thanks to you! But it's hard to get the recordings, as you know... one lost, the sound glitches... You're doing an amazing job!

Thanks, Jim. I wish I knew what the process is. It probably has a lot to do with the men of my father's generation that have come and gone in my life.
I really enjoyed hearing you read your story. Thank you
You're the first person that's said THAT to me!
I won't be the last one, that's for sure.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have a few short stories. Maybe I will begin with one of those.....
Heartbreakingly beautiful. You are such a fine writer, Ben.
Thank you so much Sharron!
Stunning.
I'm glad you like it. I hope you'll stick around.
